FLORIDA CHAPTER - SPRING 2010

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It's been a great two years for me as President of NAWA Florida Chapter. I've enjoyed working with a terrific Board of Directors, some of which are leaving, Roxene Sloate, Membership, Wendy Nicholas, Corresponding Secretary, Joan Lustig,Historian, Shirley Goldblatt, Recording Secretary and Carol Staub, Treasurer, who held that position for six years. All have done a great job in their positions. Thank you all, I know you will be there for NAWA Florida Chapter in other ways.

We have initiated a website where 25 members have portfolios. We have made it very easy for you to participate. There was an open Membership meeting following a Board meeting, with a Demo given by Sally Cooper. There were Tours to the Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts. All the applicants for our Scholarship program attend this highly rated school. There were three venues last season and four this season. Thank you to the Chairpersons and Committees for the wonderful work you have done. The exhibits and prizewinners for this season will be noted further down this Newsletter.

NAWA Florida Chapter has been a member of the Palm Beach County Cultural Council for many years. As of last year we have been active participants. Through networking we established our relationship with the Dreyfoos School. We have attended monthly PBCCC meetings, many of which have been most informative.

A lovely Luncheon was held at Benevento’s. Thank you to Jean Goddeau, for a terrific job. She arranged for our speaker Ann Fay Rushforth, who gave a marvelous talk. The Installation went very well. Thank you to Jane McIntyre for a monumental effort as Nominating Chairperson who came up with a fabulous slate. Thank you to our Founder Liana Moonie, who installed the new Officers. A thank you award was given to Carol Staub for her six years of Commitment and Dedication as Treasurer of NAWA Florida Chapter.

I want to thank Helene Kleiner for the Newsletter, Grace Fishenfeld for Publicity, Stella White, Past President extraordinaire, Lois Barton former Presentation Book Chair, Lore Baer new Presentation Book Chair, and Janice Cohen, as Scholarship Chair and Chairperson of the Armory Exhibit. Two jobs well done. It was a pleasure for me to work with her.

We have lined up some of next seasons venues Coral Springs Museum, Nov.30, 2010- Jan. 3, 2011. Cornel Museum, 2011 and 2012 details to follow. Armory Art Center will host a combined National and Florida Chapter Exhibit. As new Exhibition Chairperson I will work on this exhibit with Susan Hammond, the outgoing President of National. It will take place Nov.18, 2011 -Jan. 7, 2012; we have worked this out with Ann Fay Rushforth, Program Director and Chief Curator. We had a great experience working with her on the March Exhibit and look forward to the next one.

No President can do a job of presiding alone. I have to thank the Board of Directors, Volunteers and the Membership for their participation in all our activities. I was fortunate to have a great Vice President, Emalee Andre. I truly enjoyed working with her. She did things I could not do, as well as being my confidant. She will be a

wonderful President. Good Luck Emalee and Good Luck to Vice President Jane McIntyre, Recording Secretary, Lois Barton, Treasurer Elizabeth Reed and to the Board of Directors. May you have many accomplishments during your tenure.

Have a good summer, Best Wishes,

Bernice Harwood
